The advance announcement of the meeting quoted JoAnn:
"Minimalism. Content management. Single sourcing. Offshore outsourcing. We are
being continuously challenged to pursue innovative practices to reduce costs.
We hope we can reduce costs without harming customers-- sort of the tech comm
Hypocratic oath.
"However, none of these reputed best practices is likely to succeed
if we're immersed in immature processes. I argue that without a Level 3 in process
maturity, pursuing best practices like these is futile. First, we stabilize the
fault and stop the earthquakes -- only then can we afford to start building a
masterpiece that will stand."
JoAnn's reputation is familiar to most of you. She
holds a PhD and is President of Comtech, an information design firm based in Denver.
She is also Director of the Center for Information-Development Management, a member-sponsored
organization for information development and training management issues, and co-founder
and partner of SingleSource Associates.
The presentation was perhaps the most well-attended BAPMF meeting this year.
It fully lived up to the advance billing!
